But, we will have them at Black Hills (thanks to Hammer). And ice. Looking forward to ice, Coke and chicken noodle soup is what got me through the last 40 miles of Lean Horse last year. And good point about the WS qualifier...that didn't dawn on me until a couple of hours or so after the race. A little different than when I qualified for Boston!

Alex - Actually, sub-11 would probably be a pretty solid goal for me at Bighorn. If I ran the exact same time there that I did at CPTR, I'd be pretty happy with it. On paper, Bighorn almost appears to be an "easier" course with the big elevation loss, but that's certainly not reflected in the results. Of course, given the fact that I DNFed Bighorn last year, my main focus will be just finishing.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00199683291737559562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8738255226402221881.post-56069711342675253562011-05-11T08:24:39.695-07:002011-05-11T08:24:39.695-07:00Sounds like you had a pretty strong run Chris even...Sounds like you had a pretty strong run Chris even with some tough spots on the second lap. I look farward to seeing you at Big Horn. What kind of time are you aiming for there? I was 11:30 last year, and am hoping to be quite a bit faster this year. Black Hills is definitely on my calendar for next year.Alexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12214044620756866234noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8738255226402221881.post-68010734186864538272011-05-10T18:17:08.999-07:002011-05-10T18:17:08.999-07:00Sorry about the 2nd half in the sun, but way to gu...Sorry about the 2nd half in the sun, but way to gut it out! Great training for BH and still a qualifier for WS next year.

I shared the mental confusion on that first/last aid station. They said "Mile 5" outbound when my friends GPS said 5.8 (which is what I recalled)...and then 44.95 coming back in.
I shoulda warned you about gels, I wasn't a "user" last year but brought some this year. I like the midpoint drop-bag system though and just leave my stuff on the lawn. I agree that ice water/ice coke would've been a godsend -- man, if you guys are gonna have all that at Black Hills, it'll be hard to leave the aid stations!mike_hinterberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02817872376341966540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8738255226402221881.post-49380695469049245642011-05-09T18:34:14.655-07:002011-05-09T18:34:14.655-07:00Great race report Chris, I really appreciate the d...Great race report Chris, I really appreciate the detail, congratulations on your finish!
Bighorn is definitely on my bucket list. I haven't crossed into the ultra distance as of yet but this will likely be my year.
Thanks for sharing, good luck at your next date with Bighorn!jt00cthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10241820142661296649noreply@blogger.com
